Katrina Kaif makes music debut with 'Rhymeskool'
| Updated at: 0949 PST, Sunday, May 02, 2010 And apparently the B-town beauty has wowed music execs with her singing skills as they are now hoping for the star to record another one, this time with love songs. Sounds romantic? It definitely could be! Will she sing about her beau Salman Khan, or maybe about her rumored romance with Ranbir Kapoor? But for now, fans will have to settle for an album with songs for kids! "It's a fun album for kids, something I always wanted to do, to deepen my connectivity with kids. I had a ball recording the numbers. I haven't laughed so much for a very long time," Katrina told reporters. "The important thing is to make sure your charity efforts are well-utilized. I want to help causes where I can see an immediate result. Like the money from my album going into building a toddlers' school," she added. And it looks like recording songs for children has had a deep impact on the actress who now wants kids of her own! "I give myself 4-5 more years in the industry. Then I'll get married and have babies," she said. Sounds exciting! And thanks to her newfound singing skills, Katz already has some nice music to hum for her babies. Otherwise she can always put "Rhymeskool" on! |
China's cinemas set for record box office in 2010
| Updated at: 0913 PST, Sunday, May 02, 2010 La Peikang, deputy director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, China's movie regulator, said this would represent a 61 percent jump from 2009, a local news agency reported. The figures compared to takings of less than one billion yuan in 2003, he added. China-made films grabbed a share of more than 56 percent of the box office last year in a nation that now counts at least 5,000 cinema screens, the report quoted him as saying late Saturday. The Chinese movie industry is protected by a system that only allows around 20 foreign films to be screened a year, allowing homegrown directors to create Hollywood-style blockbusters without the threat of major overseas competition. At the beginning of the year, however, James Cameron's "Avatar" became China's all-time box office champion, grossing 1.3 billion yuan, the report said. |

Katrina thankful to Salman Khan for advice
Updated at: 1448 PST, Saturday, May 01, 2010
MUMBAI: Katrina Kaif says she has many people to thank for helping reach where she is today in her career. People like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar not only helped her with people but also advised her on scripts.
However now that Katrina is in the top spot with an experience of seven years to back her up she says she is still not ready to advice anyone else. “The only guidance or advice I have given anyone is to stand by the film even if you feel you made a mistake. Be loyal to all your films,” says Katrina.
The actress’s younger sister Isabella was supposed to join the industry too. however Kat says there will be time before she gets into acting and it will be upto her where she wants to try her luck – India or in the west.
“My sister is still studying in America right now,” reveals Katrina. We are sure Katrina would like to be more helpful to her sister.

‘Housefull’ in trouble
MUMBAI: The multi-starrer film ‘Housefull’ may have released with fanfare and received good reviews, but it has run into trouble for borrowing the lyrics and music of ‘Laawaris’, which was released in 1981.
Latest report has it that the Calcutta High Court has ruled that four lines (in the song) used by ‘Housefull’ director Sajid Khan have to be edited out.
Famous music director Anandji and the heirs of music director Kalyanji had filed a suit before the High Court claiming that the producers of ‘Housefull’ had used the song, ‘Apni Toh Jaise Taise’ without their permission.
Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Laawaris’ was one of the biggest hits of 1980s and legendary Kishore Kumar had sung the song in question in the yesteryear super-hit. Heirs of late Prakash Mehra, producer of ‘Laawaris’, strengthened their case by filing a separate suit before the court claiming that the song was written by Mehra and the right to the lyrics was still with them.
After hearing the older version and the new version of the song, Justice Nadira Patherya ordered the injunction restraining the defendants from using the number till June 2.
However, director Sajid Khan has said that the song is a tribute to the era and is a remix.
The song features Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone and Lara Dutta, along with Jacqueline Fernandez.

Schwarzenegger willing to run for presidency
BURBANK: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would love to run for president — if he could.
California's actor-turned-governor was born in Austria and the U.S. Constitution prevents foreign-born citizens from holding the nation's top job.
Jay Leno asked Schwarzenegger on "The Tonight Show" Thursday if he would make a White House run if the law was changed.
Schwarzenegger replied, "Without any doubt."
But that's not likely in the foreseeable future. Any amendment to the Constitution must be approved by two-thirds majorities in the House and Senate, and then be ratified by three-fourths of state legislatures.
Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear says the governor doesn't think that will happen.
