Star Bernie is treated for cancer

Updated at: 1330 PST, Sunday, April 25, 2010 LOS ANGELES: Singer and actress Bernie Nolan has been diagnosed with breast cancer, it was revealed last night.The Nolan Sisters star said she was told of the disease last week and now faces a mastectomy and chemotherapy. But the 49-year-old said: "I'm going to kick this cancer's out." Irish-born Bernie, who starred in The Bill, had a string of hits with her four sisters, including Top 10 single I'm In The Mood For Dancing in 1979. She is not the first of the sisters to be hit by cancer. Anne, 59, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000 and Linda, 52, had to have a breast removed in 2006. Former Popstar to Operastar contestant Bernie, who is married to drummer Steve Doneathy and has a 10-year-old daughter Erin, added: "Cancer's a scary word but you can beat it. "I'm going to see my daughter grow up and I'll fight it with everything I have." |
